What Parents Should Know About This Record...
From the opening dramatic appearance of Jack-in-the-Box, going through a fascinating sequence of trains and toy soldiers and bicycles all the way to the doll, this is a happy toy parade - all the fun of a magic visit to toy land. For good measure, to the appeal of the gingham dog, the calico cat and the toy elephant are added real live animals - cat, dog, and mouse - to share the fun.
In "The Merry Toy Shop" the children will jump and down, then fold up and hide with Jack-in-the-Box. They'll march with toy soldiers and walk up the aisle with the gorgeous bride doll.
This is an activity record, which means that children listening to it will respond to the rhythmic accents of the music. Body movement and muscular coordination are prime factors in the development of very young children and are aided materially by music which performs a dual function of sound and rhythmic pulsation. That is why music for these activity records (CRG "Train to the Zoo", Nothing to Do", "A Visit to My Little Friend") is varied in accent, tempo, mood, and colors of the orchestra.
