Notes
- Curios is a brand new studio album featuring the talents of alternative icons Wayne Hussey (lead singer of The Mission (twelve UK top 40 singles and six UK top forty albums)) and Julianne Regan (lead singer of All About Eve (nine UK top 40 singles and three UK top forty albums))- Hussey and Regan have shared everything from studios, stages, tour buses, band members, gear, management and record companies to hotel rooms, copious bottles of wine, and, to a certain degree, an audience. The result has been a firm and lifetime friendship and understanding.
- In 2009 Hussey and Regan started working together again with no other plan than to ‘mess around with a few ideas and see how it goes’. Then, as the first few song sketches started to gel, there was the realisation that this was something in which it was worth investing long hours and much heart and mind… as well as a lot of bandwidth.
- With Wayne now living in Brazil, the time difference meant that Julianne would often fall out of her London bed to an idea that Wayne had worked on overnight. Wayne would wake up in South America to a new vocal from Julianne, or a semi-skeletal track to be further fleshed out, and would work on it at his home studio. It took time, longer than either of them anticipated, but this was because although both are capable of spontaneity and surprise, they are also perfectionists and wanted this to be the album they both wanted to make.
- The long-standing successful personal and artistic chemistry between Wayne and Julianne is richly marbled through the album they have made together. ‘Curios’, a collection of interpretations (to call them ‘covers’ only tells a fraction of the tale) of songs they had either already loved, or came to love when the other had suggested them. Produced, engineered, and performed by Julianne and Wayne themselves, Curios is an album that will confound expectation and may even bewilder some of their previous audience but, like with any new relationship, they both realise that you need to sever ties with your past for it to have any real hope of a future.
- Curios features Hussey-Regan’s take on both a Mission track (Naked And Savage) and An All About Eve track (Calling Your Name), nine versions of classic tracks from other artists including UK number one hits by David Bowie (Ashes To Ashes) and Gerry & The Pacemakers (You’ll Never Walk Alone) and UK top ten hits by Duran Duran (Ordinary World), Depeche Mode (Enjoy The Silence), Glen Campbell (Wichita Lineman) and The Pretenders (I Go To Sleep) and two brand new tracks, one from each of the pair (Dangerous Eyes and A Change In The Weather)
