15 voices, 15 languages, 15 sound compositions. always the same text materials are used to extract speech rhythms, speech melodies or simply sounds; and to recombine them creating new musical structures. the title 'Bestimmung New York' is a game of words and also conveys the meanings atmosphere (German = stimmung) and vocalization.
the 15 voice pieces presented here consist exclusively of voice recordings of New Yorkers speaking the same words and phrases in their respective mother tongue. the three to five minutes long voice sculptures emerge from the individual sound character of the respective voices, the influence of rhythmic and melodic textures, as well as the associative and reductionist assemblage and modification of the composer.
