The title is a reference to the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey.The working title was Our Blessed Land of Mimes and Burnt Out Stars.
The vinyl includes two extra untitled tracks (D1 and D3) not available on the CD.
Scratched into the runout grooves is "the rivers do not fill the sea..." (side A) "...but return to their secret source" (side C).
